In the custom shop we invent, design, analyze, build, and test guitars. We review circuits, parts and materials to fulfill the objectives of the guitar project. We also consider any limitations imposed by practicality of the design requirements. Finally is it safe and cost effective.
If you’re the kind of guitar player who needs something built, modified or just a part relocated-no problem. If the project proposed is attainable elsewhere- we decline it. So Just buy the Les Paul Classic-it’s much cheaper than asking to have one built. Professional musicians as with most professionals bring their tools to work. They practice with those tools, tweak them for comfort and overall feel. If you are one of those Pros you know what we’re saying.
Comfort to Freely Invent, Design, and Build for Any Player.
Guitar players often stand for hours at a time. If they bear heavy instruments then add pain. It will show up in the strangest places. I was discussing with Rusty, a guitar player, about “medical issue” he was having. Where it came from was immediately apparent to me. I said, “Can I have your guitar until tomorrow, trust me, Rusty”. He said, “You got it”! So…… I went to work.
I removed every part from his guitar. Then I selected a very light guitar body. Next, I added all of the old parts back on. Being careful to set the action exactly the way it was on the old guitar. The only exception was the body. The difference in weight? The new body was 2.5 lbs less than the old one. Rusty showed up the next day and I handed the guitar over and said, “Play it”. He did and after a few minutes standing up with the new light weight guitar he looked up. There were tears in his eyes and he said, “Thanks”. I often hear from him. The first time after playing it for about a month on the job he called.
Rusty was very excited. He said, “I got off my pain meds today”. I was floored and happy. The guitar was causing the pain and the lighter version cured it. This experience has taught me to “listen” carefully to what guitar players are really saying. They are in the business of playing music. It is sometimes hard for them to verbalize issues with their guitars. I work with players every day. The most important part of my job is to listen. I always love a well finished job inventing, designing and building the perfect solution.
