and friends.....

I would guess anyone who ever knew Roy has a favorite story. Here's mine.... The last time I saw Roy alive was in Santa Barbara in April 1989 when these photos were
taken. I knew his birthday was coming up soon so I asked what he wanted for a birthday present. Roy said, "I want an effect like a stomp box that won't do anything". As you
can imagine I was shocked and asked, "Why would you possibly want something like that"? He said, "I'm getting tired of people asking me all the time how I get that great
tone. If I had something like that I could just point to it and say-it's all in the box". Around Roy's birthday I had it all ready and it worked perfectly, or should I say it didn't work
and it was perfect. Well... I put together a small blue box with a 1/4 inch input jack connected to the output jack with a stomp switch on top and a small LED operated by a 9
volt battery. When the switch was depressed the light went on and hit it again and off it went having no effect whatsoever on the connection. With an enclosed birthday wish I
added a short warranty. It said "This unit is guaranteed not to work, however if it starts working please send it back and for repair at no charge". Roy absolutely loved it, used
it regularly and never had to explain where his great tone came from again! Rick Mariner.
